I don’t often make desserts, but yesterday I was craving something sweet. I had some caramels leftover from my Christmas baking stash that I hadn’t used so I came up with these Chocolate Caramel Oat Bars. An oatmeal crust layered with gooey caramel, chocolate and then topped with more oatmeal topping adorned with pecans. A pretty good little sweet treat if you are in the mood. I almost didn’t post these as I thought I should make them one more time to perfect the crust. I think it needed a bit more butter. I’ve altered the recipe to include a few more tbsp of butter, which is what I would…

Mini Chocolate ‘Molten Lava’ Cakes
Mini Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes – a delicious blast from the past, and a quick and easy dessert to make when you are craving something a little sweet. Remember the 90’s? Aww, the good old days. I vaguely remember the 90’s, I was a bit of a wild child back then. I’m glad we didn’t have Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat back then to keep a record of our shenanigans back in the day. These little ‘lava’ cakes were a thing back then. Or it may have even started in the late 80s. It’s been a long while since I’ve even thought of making one of these, but I happened to…

Orange Scented Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce
It’s the weekend and we all deserve a treat! I think these Orange Scented Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce will fit the bill. Churros are basically a fried ‘choux’ dough. I added a bit of orange zest to my dough, which I quite enjoy. Once fried toss these babies up in some cinnamon sugar while they are hot and you are good to go. These are good just as is, but if you want to be even more decadent make a simple chocolate dip to go alongside and dunk away. CHURRO DOUGH – 1 cup all-purpose flour – 1/2 cup water – 1/2 cup milk – 1/2 cup unsalted butter,…

Pear and Chocolate Oat Crumble (Nigel Slater)
Now for all you Canadian Cooks – get your conversion calculators ready or your kitchen scales – it may help you with the British measurements. I just kind of roughly converted mine – crisps can be quite forgiving. Ahhh Nigel Slater….you never dissapoint me! I have such a foodie crush on his brilliance! He is just truly inspiring! OK enough about Nigel – lets get to this easy yummy recipe of his. I bought a huge bag of ripe pears at the grocers the other day – when this morning it dawned on me that we may not eat them all up before they go bad, so flipping through one…

A Wedding Cupcake Tower for Tanya
My friend’s Tanya and Colin got married over the weekend – and I had volunteered to make the cupcake tower for the wedding – it was a first for me – and I came to the conclusion – that flowers really do make everything look prettier (especially when you are trying to cover up your lack of icing skills) – and that I really don’t enjoy baking as much as I enjoy cooking. overall though – I think it looked pretty. I used a tried and true Chocolate Cupcake recipe that we’ve been using for years and a Cream Cheese Icing recipe I found online. I just had to share my pretty picture. Congrats…

Zander’s Birthday Feast! Pavlova with Whipped Cream and Fruit
Tonight was my Husband’s Birthday – I call him Zander – his actual name is Alex – anyway – we usually treat birthdays at our place with a good homecooked meal. What was on the menu for tonight? Can I start with Dessert? I first had Pavlova at Christmas one year. My Brother In Law’s Sister made it for us and I thought it was such a beautiful dish! It amazes me how you can transform just a couple simple ingredients into something really special…just a few egg whites and sugar. I love it topped with loads of fresh whipped cream and tons of berries or seasonal fruit. Tonight I…

Jessie’s Famous Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
My sister Jessica makes the BEST Cookies!! Truly, they are soo delish. I have tried many different chocolate chip cookie recipes and have not been able to find one yet that I like more than hers. We were at a family reunion this weekend, and had such a great time. It was so nice to reconnect with everyone. The weather was great and the company was even better. My sister brought her “famous” cookies this weekend to share, and I just knew after devouring one that it was due time to ask for the recipe. Back at home, and trying to catch up on laundry and house stuff before heading out again for my…

Chocolate Torte with Frangelico, Rasberries and Whipped Cream
Firstly I must say after devouring a piece of this, that this recipe is “to die for”. My kids and I all loved it – a definate keeper for sure…now I only wish I had made two! This recipe is courtesy of Best of Bridge. The only alteration that I made was to substitute Frangelico (a hazelnut liquor) for the Grand Marnier. Personally I don’t care for the chocolate/orange flavour combination, but if you do, by all means use Grand Marnier for this or even Orange Juice if you don’t want to use alcohol. I personally love Frangelico, so I went with this instead. I don’t often make desserts –…

Page 206 with Chocolate Butter Cream Icing
This is a recipe that was inevitably going to end up on my blog at some point. There is a huge history behind this recipe. This is the recipe that we enjoyed growing up for all of our birthdays..and special occasions. It is a classic, easy chocolate cake recipe, that is delish! It always comes out moist, and is super quick and easy to make. I am sure that my Mom has made this recipe more than 206 times..and we call it page 206, simply because that was the page number in the recipe book that it was in. I now carry on the tradition with my children…and this is the recipe…

Apple Cupcakes with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing and Candied Walnuts
Headed to our last away hockey tournament of the season this weekend, with my son Jared. Very happy that hockey is almost over and we can have a little break from busy. Decided to bake some of these little treats to bring along for the kids this weekend..I saw these on another blog..I believe this recipe was originally for a cake – so if you like you could bake in a cake pan – just add some time onto your cook time, or you could make mini muffins too if you like..just decrease your cooking time – you get the picture. I just made regular standard sized cupcakes. As for…
