Mango Margaritas

Mango Margaritas are one of my favorite drinks to enjoy when I’m visiting Mexico. These ones are slushy, ice-cold, and sweetened with honey simple syrup. I prefer the slushy kind of Margarita as it feels like a delicious grown-up Slurpee and is very refreshing on a hot day.

Since I’ve been posting quite a bit of Mexican food on the blog lately, I figured I had better add a refreshing cocktail to the menu. Especially since summer is around the corner. This is a perfect treat for the patio! Classic, easy to make and so good!

I prefer a Blanco Tequila to make this drink with. I’ve made this pretty mild, my husband’s review thought it needed more tequila. If you like yours stronger – by all means, add more tequila, whatever floats your boat.

If you are using frozen mango, you may want to let them defrost a little to help your blender along with the addition of ice so you don’t blow the motor on your blender.

You can either salt the rim, or sugar the rim or do nothing to the rim. Whatever you prefer. I like to grate a little lime zest into my rimmer for an added touch.

Also, you can sweeten to your taste. If you like it less sweet – add less simple syrup. More sweet – add less. Adjust to your taste.

How to make a simple syrup

To add a bit of sweetness to this drink I use a simple syrup. You can alter the sweetness to your taste. I don’t like mine overly sweet. Simple syrup is basically equal parts water and sugar heated up until the sugar dissolves, then cooled down. I made mine with honey instead of white sugar, using the same method.

These would go great with Mushroom Poblano Tacos and Homemade Corn Tortillas
