Pizza Night – Our Family’s Favorite Pizza Dough

Friday nights are usually Pizza nights at our place – the kids look forward to it as do I.  Sometimes I will just use Naan bread for our pizza base (that you can buy in the grocery stores), but if I make the crust – this is my favorite dough recipe for pizza that I have found so far.

This Friday, my husband was away for an annual hockey tournament in the city, so my friend and her kids came over for pizzas and we took the kids out for a movie night.  As for the toppings…well my kids are fairly boring when it comes to toppings….cheese…occasionally meat..yep that’s it..as for me I like to mix it up a little.

I am just including the recipe for the dough – top as you like.  Enjoy.

This makes 2 thin crust pizzas.

Recipe courtesy of Wolfgang Puck:

Ingredients:

  • 1 package dry active yeast
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F.)
  • 3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing
  • toppings of your choice

Preparation:

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and honey in 1/4 cup of the warm water. In a mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour and the salt. Add the oil, yeast mixture, and the remaining 3/4 cup of water and mix on low speed until the dough comes cleanly away from the sides of the bowl and clusters around the dough hook, about 5 minutes.

(The pizza dough can also be made in a food processor. Dissolve the yeast as above. Combine the flour and salt in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the steel blade. Pulse once or twice, add the remaining ingredients, and process until the dough begins to form a ball.)

Alternatively, you can also just make this dough by hand.

Turn the dough out onto a clean work surface and knead by hand 2 or 3 minutes longer. The dough should be smooth and firm. Cover the dough with a clean, damp towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes. (When ready, the dough will stretch as it is lightly pulled.)
